The Beginning of a Creative Adventure

Every story starts somewhere, and this is ours.

The Painted Chapter isn’t a finished space, a registered CIC, or a fully formed business (not yet). It’s a dream in motion. A sketch becoming a painting. A seedling just starting to push through the soil. And we’re inviting you to grow alongside us.

Right now, we’re at the very first step: building our website, opening our Snail Mail Club, and gathering a community of people who love creativity, stories, connection, and a little bit of magic.

Who Are We?

We’re Emma and Jason — a teacher and a chef who’ve built our lives around creativity, care, and community, whether that’s in a classroom, a kitchen, or the beautiful chaos of family life. We’re also parents to four brilliant boys aged 7 to 17, and housemates to three mischievous cats who believe they run the place.

Our lives are full, loud, messy, and wonderfully human. And that’s exactly the energy we want to bring into The Painted Chapter.

What this Journey is about

The Painted Chapter is our shared dream of creating a warm, imaginative space where art, books, food, and community meet. A place where people can slow down, make things with their hands, and feel part of something meaningful.

But we’re not rushing to the finish line. This journey is being documented as part of my MA in Creative Practice, a chance to explore, experiment, reflect, and build something with intention. Every step, every draft, every idea (even the ones that don’t work) is part of the story.

One of the first things we’re launching is our Snail Mail Club, a cosy, creative way to stay connected as we grow, with illustrated postcards, little stories, behind‑the‑scenes snippets, and gentle creative prompts that invite you into our world from the very beginning.

Also this blog will be our shared journal too, capturing the highs, lows, and learning curves of building something from scratch, the creative experiments and prototypes we try along the way, the beautiful chaos of family life, reflections from my MA, Jason’s culinary magic, and all the small, joyful moments that make this journey worth taking. Nothing polished. Nothing perfect. Just honest, evolving creativity, including my weird and wonderful doodles like turning my lecturer into a duck (not sorry).

If you’re reading this, you’re already part of our story. We can’t wait to share the next chapters with you, the messy ones, the magical ones, and everything in between.

Here’s to beginnings, bravery, and building something beautiful together.

Here’s to new beginnings, Emma x
